Floor Flatness Specifications

Measurement standards in floor flatness have only been developed to any degree of sophistication in the US, UK and Germany. There is considerable commonality between the US and UK standards which are to be found in use throughout the world. The German standard is unlikely to be encountered outside of Germany and some other parts of Europe.

The decision on which specification to choose is usually dependant on the country of origin and there are three main floor flatness specifications used internationally.

In addition, there are two basic types of floors:

  1. Free Movement FloorsFree movement floors refer to areas where materials handling equipment operates in random, non-defined directions and have an infinite number of travel paths.
  2. Defined Movement Floors
Floors in very narrow aisle racking systems have materials handling equipment that runs in defined and fixed paths between the racking, such as very narrow aisles
